Thanks in advance for your help. I want to repower my 1969 21 foot Fibercraft with a 2000 225hp Johnson high output. It has 6 carberators. The motor is on a bassboat, looks very clean and the origional owner says it only has 60 hours on it and has never seen salt. I looked at it carefully and I believe it's all original and has never been "opened up". It has the high-performance "pointy shaped" lower unit. Are there ANY INHEARENT PROBLEMS with this engine. Any problem with that bassboat lowerunit on my heavy oceangoing Fibercraft? Thanks. Don

The carbed versions were good. 60 hours of troublefree operation, says allot.

Those last few years before OMC died had a lot of QC problems, Don.

The design is a very good one, and with 60 hours on it it should have shown any QC errors by now.

Service would not be a problem. BRP is doing a fine job.

Good luck, and welcome to iboats. :)

Re: Is a 2000 Johnson 225 a good motor

Thanks Guys, The motor I have now is a 76 200 Johnson. The first year of the V6(and one of the first ones). My dad bought it new. I have never decarboned it and it's never had any major problems. It can be a little tricky to start sometimes but always has. I have never been towed. These new hightech motors scare me to death. I can't imagion paying 15K+ for a motor that will blow a powerhead or something every few years. Any more comments are appreciated. Don

Thanks again, model number J225HGLSSC Its says High Output on the cover. I asked if there were different powerheads made for light/fast bassboats as opposed to heavy/slower boats like my 21 foot Fibercraft in another post which is now locked(sorry editor - thought it was a different question). I just want to make sure this motor has anough torque to pull two skiers like my 1976 200 Johnson. Don

Once you run this motor youll think your 76 200 was a VW compared to this monster. Enough torque to pull 2 skiers? Enough to pull their arms out of socket.

Lets review -- a 1976 200 had about 160 hp at the propshaft. Maybe. A 225 HO is really a 250. At the prop. 2.5 liter vs 3.3, crossflow vs looper. 149 cid vs 200. (BTW -- A 60* 150 has more torque than a 200 crossflow)
