Is 75hp enough?

I just bought a '63 Glasspar Sedan 17.5', with the original Evinrude 75hp motor. The boat weighs 880 lbs, the motor 240 lbs. The motor looks good but has not been run in years. Before I spend too much time and money on this motor, I'd like to know if this will be enough power to pull 3-4 people and a skier? Apparently the hull is rated for up to 120hp.

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

IGOTITCHEAP,
As long as you're not talking 200lb people, you "might" able to pull a "Child" skier, but the skier must be a lightweight person (<100lbs) and they must start on two skis. You'll never be able to get a person up who starts out on one ski. :(

Remember, that year of Evinrude had the HP rated at the powerhead and not the prop so that 75 will have the power of a newer 60hp.

Now add 4 people, and that poor boat gets kind of heavy. It probably would pull a kneeboard with ease and possibly a tube so your family could still have some fun.

Anythings possible though...When
I was younger, we figured out how to ski behind a 12ft jon boat with a Mercury 9.9.
We had to start sitting on a kneeboard with the 2 skis on and once you got planing, you stood up and discarded the kneeboard. We got lots of strange looks  , but we proved it could be done. :p

Nav
