is 4-stroke worth it?

thinking of replacing my 40hp force outboard with a 50hp 4-stroke (on an alum. bass tracker). any thoughts?<br />also is the 4-stroke a lot quieter even at higher speeds.<br />thanks for any thoughts!!

Yes, Gonefishin, a 4S is much smoother and quieter at any speed. Caution: They are also heavier . . . .heavy enough in some cases to overload the transom in boats rated for more HP. Depending on what your Tracker is rated for, consider going with 50% to 70% of rated HP. <br /><br />I am a BIG fan of EFI 4 strokes, so I suggest you look closely at the Suzuki/Evinrude EFI 40/50hp engine. Nobody else offers EFI in that power range (yet).<br /><br />I have a DF70 EFI Suzi on my Sunshine III and it is a whole new world compared to 2 strokes. <br /><br />Red sky at night. . . . <br />JB

The four stroke could be 50-75# heavier, but the increased fuel economy and smooth running is worth the weight.
