Hey everyone, new guy here. Found the site looking for information on my current boat(old Aeroglass) and then more about a boat I’m looking to buy soon ‘69 Starcraft(or so the guy says. I have a couple quick questions though, can anyone identify it, and I know it’s missing the splashwell, is that an issue? Or would it turn you away from buying it? Paying $400 for the boat and trailer. Thanks everyone!

Welcome!
Let's get some pics of this missing splash well. Inquiring minds would like to know what it looks like.

Ok, I see that now. I don't believe that rig had a splash well to begin with. Some don't.

Ahh, makes sense. I have access to a full metal shop, so I may fab one up if I buy it. Which I think I’m going too. Going to use the motor off my Aeroglass than sell it. Wife won’t let me have too many toys haha

I wouldn't bother making a splash well , unless you have water coming in easily later on. If it was not needed before, all you are doing is adding weight to a small boat.

Okay, would you say for the price of $400 it’s worth it? My current boat has way more issues then I want to deal with mostly due to being fiberglass. I like this as it’s aluminum and still the same size as my boat now.

Look it over real well, check for leaks at the seams, and rivets. Or crack's anyplace. Aluminum can be repaired/welded by a good welder. Rivets can be re-bucked or replaced. If you like it, yes 400 is a fair price, if there are no major issues.
Good luck!

Thanks! I planned to give it a good look. I know a couple welders of things go bad. The current owner said it doesn’t leak. I’m not sure I believe that, but if I buy it I plan to restore it at some point shortly after getting it.

Yeah, now I notice the First pic looks to have been painted on the bottom, perhaps to cover some shoddy repairs?

The trailer alone is worth a couple hundred bucks. Four hundred doesn't seem unreasonable.

Thanks Tacx. Going to see it tomorrow at 1. I’ll probably get it, then comes the restoration. I’m still trying to figure out what Starcraft model it is if he’s right on the manufacturer

Anyone got tips on what to look for on aluminum boats? I don’t know much about them. Been a fiberglass guy for a while. I’ll be looking for major damage and obvious holes

Basically, look for rivets' that have been siliconed, and ribs that are cracked. If the rib is cracked possibly the hull may be also. Check seams for corrosion, and the transom to see if the wood is solid. Other than that it's a repairable rig for the money imho.

Thanks Grub. I’ll post what I find and do momentarily. Couple minutes away

Got it for even less then I planned! $300 and she’s hitched to my truck! Pictures to come when I get home.
