Not sure what is going on with my primary computer. All of a sudden I cannot bring up a browser. I have had to switch over to my work computer to type this.

I had a browser open and it would let me swap pages with that browser but I could not open a new one by using 'open with new window'. It would momentarily flash a little box in the taskbar but would then just go away.

With the original window open, I tried to just open a new home page window, same thing. I then closed the original browser window and just tried to open a fresh one again, it starts to open then just goes away.

What could be going on. Both computers are on on the same network so I know it is not a signal problem. The computer I am using is a W2K and my primary computer is XP pro. I do not use this computer for internet access very often.

Everything else works on the computer and I can open Outlook express and receive mail.

UPDATE: It just let me get on line thru the AdAware update function but it still will not open a new homepage.

You didn't say, so I'm gonna ask . . . Have you done a restart?

You better suit up and get on the road QC. :D My experiences with both Win2K and XP have been so stable, I forgot all my old Win3.1 tricks and habits. Thanks all for a swift kick back to reality.

BTW, I like your new Avatar QC. Every time I saw your old one, I had to keep reminding myself that is was not a rorshach test. :p

I'll have to round up and post my picture of the dam, at nite, when I came back thru Vegas on a trip from Houston. It was a pretty sight with all the lites twinkling in that dry desert air.
It was taken from up on the road behind the stern of your boat.

Everytime I have a computer problem and I asked my idiot son (8th Grade Valedictorian, High School Valedictorian and soon to be Sumna Cum Laude Graduate from Cal State U Bakersfield with a double major in Math and Phyisics) he says, :reboot: :D

Y, thank you QC. When are you going to take a bite on the OCD thing. I am sitting here with my hands tied until UPS makes a delivery that should have been here hours ago. :backtothedrawingboard:

Yep... reboot fixes the problem.

The tricky part if figuring out why you HAD to REBOOT in the first place!

This changes, of course, if you NEVER restart your machine. I tell my customers that if you choose to be 'one of those people' who leave their computer on all the time... make sure you restart it at least once a week to clear it out.

Sean

Re: Internet access problem-Help!!

I used to occasionally experience that when I had on older version of ad-subtract or popup stopper (forget which one) installed on my old machine. It was the software that prevents window spawning that also prevented me from opening a new IE window. Had to hold down [ctrl] to get a new IE window to open and stay open. Never figured out way it sometimes did that and sometime didn’t. Rebooting did fix it.

Edit: it might have been the [shift] key. Try holding down either the [ctrl] or the [shift] key when clicking on ‘open with new window’. Also, going to the sys tray and turning off the application also allow the new IE window to take.

I sometimes utilize the "sudden power failure" feature on the wall power outlet, when all else fails.

It's worked every time so far...

Re: Internet access problem-Help!!

I do have PopUpStopper. It causes me to have to use the ctrl key quite often while on the net. It never occured to me to try that key while I was having the problem.

For now, restart did the trick but if it happens again I will turn off my popupstopper and see how it goes.

You opened a can full. While working with the Micro slop technicians I find that many times they don't even know. With all the proprietery software on the market it is amazing that things work as well as they do. On one ocassion I kept asking the tech do want me to reboot and he said no, because when the computer reaches this point again the same thing will happen. You can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time. I think Abraham Lincoln said that....

Re: Internet access problem-Help!!

Now will someone please call my customers help desk and inform them about the reboot. They will have me drive 50 or so miles to reboot something, just so they dont have to do it remotely.
