Intermittent starting problems

I replaced my 8 year old battery this spring and since then have had intermittent problems starting the boat ( 2006 Mariah SX20 with the 5.0 L fuel injected mercruiser.) I cleaned off the connections to the battery and they seem to be good. What happens is that when I turn the ignition key, some times nothing happens, sometimes the fuel pump runs, sometimes the starter solenoid clicks and sometimes everything works and it fires right up. The gauges work every time and the voltmeter shows a good battery charge. It seems to generally start better warm than after its been off for a while. Any ideas?

Take the battery cables off and look under the insulation jacket for corrosion. Next do the same thing with the Negative cable. Remove both ends or both cables, most important is the negative

In cold start only? If not play with the shifter in neutral when this happens. The shifter for my kicker does the same thing, not battery related in my case.
