My 2004 F200 has had this problem occasionally since new. It crops up maybe 2 or 3 times a season - other than that, the motor has been flawless.
The symptoms are that after you've been running for a while, you shut the motor off for a few minutes - say 15 or so. When you go to restart it, the engine will grunt, but not really crank - it seems like the starter doesn't have enough torque to turn the engine over. Then you switch in both batteries, and it starts just fine. It always starts on a single battery when the motor is cold.
The motor has never not started when using both batteries, but I always wonder if I'm going to have a problem someday. Anyone else experience this type of problem?
