1995 Johnson 115. Sometimes smokey on start ups and sluggish for a few minutes . Then settles down to a smooth idle and will plane with plenty of power. However, if I just cruise around at a slow speed for a while then hit the throttle to take off the engine will bog down for a bit but will eventually pick up and go. Best I can remember this happening was after adding Seafoam ( following mix instructions on the can) to my 6 gal fuel tank. That fuel has been used up but the problem still occurs with fresh fuel. Coincidence or another problem I don't know. Also. there is a strong fuel smell all the time but no fuel system leaks. I'm thinking maybe it's time to call my mechanic for carb overhaul.

Seafoam or any other solvent loosens up contaminants in the system -- OK if the stuff is routed through and burned away. Otherwise, not so great. If you have contaminants in the carbs, the only solution is to disassemble and clean them.

There are a number of " no money spent " things you can do.-----Test run with the cowling off.------Do a compression test.----Test for spark on each lead.---Good spark will jump a gap of 7/16" or more.----Report what you find.

Went out twice this weekend and both times had a problem with the engine not able to get up on plane. The boats starts fine, idles smooth, we pull away from the dock, hit the throttle and the engine just can't hit full power to plane. No weird noises or missing, just can't get throttled up to plane out. after a short time (20-30 mins) I try again. After several attempts, off we go. Running great the rest of the day. This has happened the last two trips out. I have been thinking, high speed jets. Powerpak , fuel lines
. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If the carbs were the problem would it still be able to plane eventually?

Tried it again yesterday. Same thing. Talked to my marine mechanic and he feels like maybe a bad coil, relay/rectifier, high speed jet sticking in the carb or plugs. I will take it in sometime after the 12th of this month. I will report back with the repairs made.
