I have a 2000, 200 HP Evinrude FICHT outboard engine. Recently I have experienced a periodic failure for the ignition key to work. The engine will make no attempt to turn over.

I replaced the ignition switch and the starter selenoid, disconnected the kill switch and tested and replaced all of the fuses on the engine. I also Replaced both batteries and cleaned all battery cable connections.

I can jump the starter selenoid with the ignition key in the on position and it starts right up. Then all of a sudden it will start with the key. It will start a dozen times with the ignition switch then stop working. Jump start it a few times and the key will work again.

Any additional ideas would be appreciated.

Engine Model E200 FPXSS SN# 04752061

Problem Resolved. It appears that the wire that goes from the key switch to the starting selenoid goes through a fuse block or something along those lines. The wires appear to be sealed in this cube except that is not the case. The wire from the ignition switch pulled loose and would only work when the cube, fuse block moved to a position that allowed contact to be made. I reccomend that if anyone has electrical problems, they closely examine all of these and do a simple continuity test to trace the wires through the engine.
