I am in the market for a new boat -- looks like a deck boat fits the bill for my family. My local Stingray dealer offered to give me the boat at $7177 off of MSRP. This is the 2006 220DR deckboat (22'3", 3811 lbs dry wt) with Volvo 5.0 MPI 270 HP SX engine (includes Road King trailer with 5 YEAR STRUCTURAL WARRANTY & LIGHT SYSTEM WARRANTY). I asked about the stringer system -- I am told it has treated wood stringers (encased in fiberglass). The wood comes with a lifetime warrantee. Boat will be used primarily in salt water (live in Florida) Anyone have any experience with this boat? Thoughts on this wooden stringer system? Also, I will be pulling with my 1995 Ford Explorer (6cyl) -- told it would be ok. Standing by for comments!

the boats for the last 50 years have been made with wood stringer. proper maintanance is the key. Trailer brakes a must. you are pushing or exceeding the explorers max, get him tho throw in a wieght distributing system. will help. i know toyota 4 runner is rate around 4300 lbs regular hitch and 7300 with weight dist. hitch.

Re: Interested in Stingray 2006 220DR Deckboat

Appreciate the help. My explorer has a 5300 lb max tow wt. I estimate the boat/trailer/fuel/water/stuff to be ~ 5400 lbs -- which is 105 over the max for the vehicle and 405 over my Class III hitch rating. So the info on the wt distrib sys was very valuable -- as it will increase my max towing wt for the hitch to 7500 lbs. I still need to be careful with the overall tow wt for the Explorer (is that my transmission I smell??). I guess it would be a good idea to get the sway control parts with the wt distrib sys as well.

if the explorer doesn't have a transmission cooler install one. it's like a small radiator to cool the transmission fluid.

Is the transmission cooler mainly for longer trips (say >20 miles) or do you think I will need it for the 5-10 mile trips from my house to the boat ramp?
