So I'm thinking of buying another boat. I really want a cuddy, so I am considering selling the bowrider this spring. I am somewhat interested in this 95 Regal listed here on iboats. It is about 3 hours away, more than I want to spend, and has a problem with the trailer. However, given the current market, I am considering making the trip next weekend to check it out. What do you all think? This is not my first boat and I am well aware of the hidden issues to look for with a boat of this age. Do you think I have a shot a being out the door, with roadworthy trailer, for around $4000.00?

Re: Interested in Boat in Iboats Classifieds

Axles are cheap. However, it is too far away to make more than 1 trip. I'm sure if the marina replaces the axle they will want a ridiculous price. Man I wish it were closer. I've been searching for several weeks and this appears to be the best deal on this type of boat. According to NADA, he is right in line price wise. Does anyone know anything about the quality of mid 90's Regals?

Trailer Shown with Boat has Broken Axial
At Full Asking Price we will Replace Axial or With a Similar Used Trailer that is Road Worthy

Would your existing trailer fit? or access to a trailer? Maybe without that trailer you could get closer to 4k

The boat isn't overpowered with a 4.3, that's for sure. And a single axle trailer isn't any more than enough trailer for it. The amount of hours says that the boat has been sitting around A LOT! Quality of mid 90's Regals is/was good. Hard to say what price they would take. Best of luck to you.

Looks like a good boat, I wonder why they painted the deck. I agree its not going to be a speed demon, but should have enough power for a cruiser. Also shouldnt be on a single axel trailer, and should have brakes, unless its a 6000lb axel, and rated tires. You can pick up a good twin axel trailer w brakes, for around $500, maybe more. Depends too, when the outdrive bellows where changed last, and serviced.

Most axels I have seen go from 3000lb to 6000lb, I have not seen, and have not looked for in some time, axels in between. I didnt mean you have to have 6000lb axels.

According to ABOS Should be anywhere from $4300 - $7500 without the trailer. Call and see how much they would charge to fix the trailer and include that in the negotiations.

The add already states, the price, with a fixed or other used trailer is $4900. No need to call. My point is that trailer is not big enough. Etracer is right. But I do *think* there are 3500lb axles out there, and one of them *may* be enough. Cheetah, that dry weight listed is inaccurate at best.

That trailer looks like it has 10 inch wheels and tires. The "V" shaped cross member looks like it is just a couple inches off the ground. The maximum load for a 10 inch load range E tire is 1300# at 90 PSI give or take a bit. That is a total load of 2600#. The boat is 2800 and the trailer is another 600+ so it is no wonder the axle is bent as it is probably a 3000-3500# variety. With a full tank of fuel, batteries, gear, and adult beverages, this rig is seriously overloaded.

for a 20 is is under powered, and the boat is dirty, way dirty.

the cuddy cushions are missing.

i dont really think the boat was kept up all that well.

OK-So I just talked to the marina. 1 owner boat, close friend of the marina owner. He has all cushions, captains chair (to replace leaning post if desired), bimini and camper enclosure, and has documentation that manifolds, gimbal bearing, and bellows replaced last year. States that boat is absolutely solid and in very good condition. He did admit that it is dirty from sitting on his lot. Bottom line on boat only 3900. Boat with a roadworthy galvanized trailer 4300. Oh, the carpet was removed when boat was new because owner did not want it. Deck was painted with a non slip marine deck paint-he was not sure exactly which one. He says it needs nothing other than the trailer. I'm thinking it may be worth the 3 hour road trip. Maybe next weekend.

do consider that it was owned by a "close friend" of the marina owner.... there is potential in there for them to be in cahoots to hide something

buyer beware comes to mind after all this is a 17yr old boat

I certainly appreciate all of the comments and advice. If it is not exactly as represented, I will walk away. I have a good boat and don't NEED this one. Either way I will be on the water as soon as boating season is here. I wanted and should have bought a cuddy to begin with.

At the prices he quoted you, if it truly is a "turn key" operation, it would be worth it.
