interchanging Yamaha lower units

I have a 1996 v4 Yamaha 115hp and I pretty much trashed the lower unit housing, the shaft is fine as is the gears, I've located a used Housing it's from a 1990 115hp Yamaha. So i guess my question is, are these interchangeable,will the 1990 fit on my 1996.

Flatpicker, im no expert but my 91 140 has and older lower unit not sure how old it is maybe someone could be more assureing
