Does anybody know whether the mid eighties carburetors of the 140 and the 165 mercruiser engines are inter-changable?
thanks,Cornelis.

Re: Interchanging mercruiser carburetors.

Don't know if this helps but I used a carburetor off a '77 470 on my '84 140.
Basically I replaced the Mercarb with the older Rochester.

I'll make a guess here and say if both are 2bbl carburetors, you should be able to swap them with little to no modification.

Re: Interchanging mercruiser carburetors.

Thank you for answering so fast Bondo
They look exactly the same, but they have different numbers.
The 165 bowl is #1389 99564
The 140 bowl is #1389 98490
I used a 165 carb on my 140 for the last 2 years and it did fine but I also have 2 140 carbs in my junk pile. One a Rochester, the other a mercruiser.
Hank from L&M in Port Bay (I presume you know him) thinks that there is very little difference.
