Are the coils and power pack interchangeable on a 1984 and a 1986 90 hp Johnson? I bought a 1984 in good condition for parts for my 1986 on my Whaler. I think I need coils for the 1986 and it's not here so I could look at both engines to see if they are the same.

They look about the same but have different part numbers, does this mean they wont work. I bought this engine from a friend, hoping I could use it for parts, already had to buy a rectifier, they weren't the same. I might just have to sell it, was a good running engine thats why I bought it.

not necessarily, look up both motor or the above link. if the numbers match, then they are alike, and interchangable.

Thanks, Looks like Johnson made a big change after 1984, now I have a motor for parts that is no good to me. Guess it's time to put it on Craigs list. What do you think I should ask for it. The only problem is the t&t doesn't work.
