Running '94 chevy 350 with 4bbl quadrajet in the saltwater.
Current intake manifold is shot as pictured below

Which options do I have to buy new replacement and from where?
Can I use aluminum manifold instead?

Thanks,
Daniel

Re: Intake Manifold options

Are the manifold bolts the same angle or are the 4 under the carb a different angle?
Pretty sure I have that one.

Re: Intake Manifold options

I changed to a Holley aluminum intake the year after I got it new. It saves 50 lbs, flows better.

To protect it from the salt water, I'd clean the water passages with acid, then detergent, then a demineralized water rinse, let dry. Then seal all the water passages off but the thermostat, pour a pint of GE Glyptal paint into it, seal the t/s hole, tilt the manifold every direction to spread the glyptal. Remove the plugs/seals, drain the excess paint, let it cure in the sun.

Glyptal is often used by racers on inner engine surfaces to help oil flow easily by smoothing the rough sand cast surface.

If Glyptal is not readily available in your area, 2 part epoxy paint will work also.

....concurr with the Glyptal. Back in my racing days (daze), I Glyptal-ed all my blocks, manifolds, gear casings and rear ends internally. It greatly increases oil flow-back rates, aids in cooling and traps casting debris. Check your local electrical contractor supply for Glyptal: available in a couple of colors and either liquid or spray. Be mindfull of spills: it's almost impossible to remove once dried on porous surfaces. :)

Re: Intake Manifold options

All cast iron manifolds are back ordered or lead time is 7 days +.

I've ordered Edelbrock 2104 aluminum manifold, which water passages I will paint with remaining Primacon/Trilux33 I have. Lets hope 150F salt water wont flake off all the paint for the remaining of this season. I will throw pencil-type zink anode as well.

Over wintertime, when time wont matter, ill order high rise cast iron manifold.

Don't expect an aluminum manifold to last very long in a raw (salt) water cooled engine!
