Re: Insurance

I would call the other carriers that you have such as home, auto, etc.

And I would also get a quote from Progressive.

By all means, shop around. You'll be surprised at the range of prices you'll get for the same coverage.

I'am a Boater and Insurance Agent. I was paying $130.00 with Boat U.S. for my unlimited towing and labor policy. I did a policy for myself and pay less than $40 a year for $1000.00 towing and labor and $25,000 in Liability insurance. If I get stuck in the bay, this policy will surely pay for its self. If you want a quote please call me at 732-922-4722 and ask for Paul. Thanks and have a great baoting season!!!

Boat US... Would not trust my 3 boats to anyone else.
When I compaired different compaines, no one offered the same coverage for same money.

I had just the opposite experience. I had used BoatUS for the last 30 years mainly because all of my boats had been over 30' in length and they were the only ones who would insure boats over 30'. When I downsized to a 24' last December, Progressive beat BoatUS by over $200/year here in Fl.

When I purchased my pontoon 2+ years ago I checked every company I could find that offered marine insurance. From my notes, Progressive does not offer true "Agreed Hull Value". Value will be figured on current used value. They also do not offer "Hull Recovery" or "Hazardous Spill Abatement", These are paid out of your hull value.

Re: Insurance

Fyrfghtr, I think you have either old information or the wrong information. Progressive does have hazard spill and recovery on there coverage...and its not an extra cost. I will grab my DEC page and bring it to show coverage, when buying your boat insurance its the same as house, car, or ATV insurance...you decide on the coverage that best suits you. Whether it is full hull replacement, agreed used value replacement, most carriers IF YOU asked will fit your coverage to what you need/want.

Re: Insurance

I insured my new to me boat yesterday with Progressive for an agreed value of 11,000 and it also covers towing, wreck recovery and spill abatement. It was right around 250 a year.

Re: Insurance

I just changed insurance companys from liberty mutual to Auto Owners ins . The boat was with progressive and cost 169.00 a year. the boat was insured for 1900.00 with full coverage towing labor and hazmat. Auto Owners gave me more coverage for less money 79.85 per year. The cost savings for 5 cars boat and trailer and home was over2300.00 per year. The agent said they just love "OLD FOLKS". I had never heard of them but they are a fortune 500 company based out of michigan. They gave a large discount because we were over 65.

Re: Insurance

Progressive cost replacement insurance from new is decently priced for me. Also take the plunge for Sea Tow or Boat US, whoever is closest to your water destinations. Harris Chain and surrounding lakes SeaTwo is your best bet since they have a decent local presence out on our lakes.
