1975 merc. 650 65hp. I would like to install a temp gauge. It is on a pontoon boat and i have to raise the sun deck to see the pee stream. There is a plug near the top of the rear cover on the motor, looks like an 1/8th inch pipe plug. Could i install a sender unit here and run to a dash gauge? Any advice greatly appreaciated. Thanks, Allen

Sounds like you found a good place to intall it.

But how about a water pressure guage instead? It will give you an instant indicator of cooling water problems. Whereas a temp sensor will only tell you after it has overheated. You could hook it up to the same place.

Re: installing temp gauge

Teledyne makes a water temp gauge and I bought one at West Marine. Instructions are included for various brands of OBs. My is held against the head by a clamp on a head bolt. It came with several brackets for different installations on different OBs. Some screwed directly into the water jacket others screwed into a blind pocket. About $40.00.
