Hello,

I need to install snaps on my new boat cover, and was wondering if anyone knew how to attach the snap "base" to ethe side of the boat (fiberglass).

Does the base just screw into the fiberglass with a stainless screw? Does anyone know where to get these kind of snaps?

Thanks for your help!!!

They make bases with the screw you just have to be brave and drill the right size pilot hole :)

you can get them here and most good local marine stores

Another tip if you're going though gelcoat: once you drill the pilot holes, use a countersink bit made for wood screws and put a countersink in each pilot hole. It doesn't have to be deep, but should nearly go through the gelcoat at its deepest point (the very center). This will keep chunks of gelcoat from breaking out when you screw the studs in.

I have a boat full of "chunks" from irresponsible screwing. I might have to try that.

Reel Poor, you have no idea how funny that was. I have four kids and all of them were...."you havn't gotten your period in HOW long??:^

The kids are great, though......wouldn't trade them for a stack of shiny dimes. Guess I'll pay attention to what I,m typing before I click that "Add reply" button d:)

Re: Installing Snaps on Fiberglass

Hi all, I am just reading this posting as I am seeking solutions to replacing missing/broken off snaps from the hull of my 1989 19 Ft. Well craft fiberglass boat.

Can you tell me how to best remove the broken screw from the fiberglass hull on the transom, and then the best solution to replace the snap? ...I have 5 snaps to replace.

I read the replies on using a plastic wall anchor and a counter sink....great ideas.....R there any new strategies in 2009?
