My 1977 Aquasport CC 22-2 Inboard — 350ci/370HP Chevy— has lost it's large keel/skeg. As you can imagine, with this boat the big skeg protects the prop and prevents sliding when turning. She steers straight but slides/drifts.
The skeg was damaged banging repeatedly on a hard sandbar in a raging storm. It was bent to the side somewhat and snapped of one of the three or four very SMALL fasteners. Skeg is independent of the hull and not glassed on. I had to force the skeg to snap the rest of the fasteners to remove the skeg. There are no leaks.
My question is: will the addition of a couple of aluminum skegs such as those used on inboard ski boats work? Or must I have a larger one fabricated? I would attach it to a heavy aluminum strip fastened to the hull. Thanks for any advice! Larry
