Installing Rectifier / 9.8 Nissan NSF9.8A2

Hey all!
Attempting to install new Rectifier/regulator on my motor. Does anyone have any idea where the rectifier goes? Can’t seem to find diagram in owners manual.

Check if under or side of the flywheel there's an extra connector to hook the rectifier there...

Not clear if you are replacing an existing rectifier, or trying to come up with a charging system knowing that it will need a rectifier?

On the systems I'm familiar with, if you look under the flywheel there will be 3 coils. 1 small one for firing the ignition, and 2 larger coils whose leads eventually end up at the rectifier. The rectifier would have 4 wires. One is a ground, one is the 12v lead (often going to a fuse), then the engine's 12v system(s). The remaining 2 wires, often yellow, lead to the 2 larger coils under the flywheel.

What I'm wondering is if your engine is equipped with those larger coils.

Man! Thank you so much. I am replacing an existing rectifier. I’m trying to finish a job that the shitty mechanic didn’t. I have the red down, but there are two yellow and one white existing “plugs” but setup isnt working, I tried different plugs . I need a mechanic ha.

If your motor is electric start (looks like it), it has an alternator. If not (rope start only), you will need an alternator in addition to the rectifier. Full info is in the Factory service manual, Part #: 003N210561 List Price (MSRP): $43.75, but FWIW, the rectifier is plug-and-play. It mounts below the oil pressure switch on the port side, behind the CD wiring connectors. Yellow and white are alternator-to-rectifier wires (female from the alternator). Those should be about 1/2 way down the wiring block (cable terminal holder in the FSM). The big red is below those. You MUST ground the rectifier/regulator with a 6mm bolt (10mm head).

Thank you. This boat was running a few weeks ago, wouldn’t start. The rectifier has a ground cable but do I also secure it to the motor I assume? I’ll go down and check it out

Yep the rectifier's ground cable must be bolted to the block as suggested...

All due respect Paul, but if those manuals were handy, I doubt there would be any question here. If it continues to be an issue, I'm in total agreement with you. Go get a manual! -Al

Good point Al, but as you know, working without a manual is difficult. The manuals are available from any dealer.
