I am installing a new motor hopefully soon, how do I know what the leg height should be? To be honest I don't even know what I have currently, it seems most are either 20's or 24's I believe. Can someone give me an idea what is best for my boat. I have a 24MonArk (suncaster-240) 1994) Thanks for the help.

On the coast guard rating plate I would call your local dealer and give them a VIN and they should be able to give you a rating or get you a plate. I deal with pontoons all the time and don't know what your referring to about the leg height. On motors I would go with a 4 stroke or an Optimax motor. They are a lot quieter and more fuel efficient. On a 24 footer a 115 HP would be a good fit.

You can bet a 20" (Long Shaft) lower unit would be correct for your toon..

measure from where the motor sits on the transon to the plate just above the prop. that is the shaft length. if buying a brand new motor, have dealer install.

Guess I've just never heard it called a leg. 15 " motors are for small jon boats, 20" is for about everything else and 25" is made for most saltwater boats. Looked up you vin on your motor and it is a 60 HP Mercury (not mercruiser, mercrusier is an inboard) Bigfoot motor. 20 inch is standard for a pontoon. With motor cost the way it is, almost better off trading in the whole rig. A 115 HP Otimax motor is $8690 MSRP. When you add the labor price of rigging and derigging the motor and control cables if you need them it can get pricey. Used boats are bringing good money right now. I can't keep a used boat in stock. Just something to think about.
