Installing new Bilge Pump

I want to remove and install a new bilge pump. Where should I splice the Brown/Black Wire(s)? Then what should i do to protect the splice? Shrink wrap? electrical tape? Thanks.

Obviously undo the splice at its current location or at least above the level of the floor so the splices don't get wet. Yes, seal the splice with heat shring, although heat shrink and water resistant connectors are available at auto centers in most larger department stores.

IMHO nothing beats a shrink wrapped soldered connection. the wires should be the same as the one that's there.
