Installing lower unit

I changed the impeller on a 1993 40 HP 4 Cyl ELPTO but after reinstalling the bottom end only have forward gear, no neutral or reverse. What do I need to do or how do I get the gear and throttle shift to align?

Did you have the LU in forward gear before installing the shift shaft guide?

What is your engine s/n?
