Installing a Tachometer on a 1974 glastron v178 starflite with 1973 Evinrude 115?

I need help Installing a Tachometer on a 1974 glastron v178 starflite with 1973 Evinrude 115. It currentlydoes not have one, what is a reasonably priced one to buy and how to hook it up? I would like to know what rpms im running to buy a new prop. any advice?

The factory left the stub end of a grey wire inside the control box. It pulls out through a half-hole cast in each half of the box. (underside of the control box.) That wire connectes to the "S" terminal on the tach. All you need is a + and - from another gauge on the dash.

what if there is not a grey wire, where do i run one to?

You pulled the box apart and it's missing? You'll hook the wire to the #7 terminal strip on the engine.

not pulled apart yet, rainstorm outside and didnt want to uncover boat yet, just asking on safe side. but i know there is no plug there.

The control box tach plug came out on the 79 models.
