Installing a second battery and other such transom work.

How do you get to the inside of the Islander's transom. Do you have to go in through those compartments that the battery sits in or the storage are opposite. I need to check what type of steering I have. Anybody have any ideas? I would also like to put a second battery in. Is there room below the standard battery?
