Installed water pump impeller, BACKWARDS! What are the chances of it turning around?

yeah....... I dumb.

I turned the starter gear by hand, gear went up and turned the motor counter-clockwise. So I go pissed, took the lower unit back off, and reversed the impeler. hooked the battery up and gave it a turn. It spins clockwise.

what do you guys think the chances are of it fixing itself?

If its a brand new impeller, the fins will probably right themselves without shearing...if it's an old campaigner, all bets are off.

The fins only turned around because you dropped the case,
if you hadn't it wouldn't have fixed itself.
Its Schroedingers cat all over again.

I agree with TD, If it was a new impeller, and you lubed it good with liquid dish soap, or grease, it would turn around by itself.

Doesn't need any lube and chances are close to 100% it will self-correct. Water IS the lube!

Yes wild1j, lube of some type is recommeded! I always lubed the ones I've done, then once installed, I push down on the impeller housing over it, as I turned the shaft clockwise, that' the best, easiest way to do it. ;)

To each his own, I guess, but I've never done that nor seen a need.

I made this F-up myself.

Impellers right themselves. Not doubt. I use a few spirts of "mystery oil" in the outlet port before installation.

..To ensure the fish have regular movements.

I think that Mr Albert Einstein and Mr Erwin Schroedinger would disagree as Tash stated. I cant see how dish soap could hurt, so I use it during impeller installations.

For what it's worth - I put my impeller in backwards once, and it did self correct - but only after the fins were damaged to the point that the effort was useless. I had to replace it immediately due to insufficient water flow and overheating.

I also put one in backwards once. Pulled it off and still one fin that was in the backwards direction
