Oops, I should have posted this in Electronics . . .

Picked up a Standard Horizon PS 2000 over the winter, new for $180. Nice weather past few days, so I finally had a chance to install it and the new antenna.

Thought some would enjoy seeing my final installation as many here had recommended I go with the 8 foot antenna for max range. I find many times many forum members chip in to give their guidence in response to a question and they never hear from the poster again, so I figured I'd say thanks again and post some pics.

I was leaning towards a 4 foot or bottom load antenna because of my boats size. But we go on big waters, like on 132 mile Lake Champlain and the one time I actually needed my hand held at 10pm in total darkness, it's 2 mile range was useless.

I went with the 8 foot Shakespeare Galaxy in black. Has to be over 3 feet away from the radio so drivers side console mount was out. So I went with the pictured transom mount placement. What's a few more holes in my transom. It came out really nice. Will swing down nice and flat and out of the way for times when fishing off the transom or for trailering.

Coolest part of the PS 2000 is all the controls are on the detachable mike. The black box is on a bracket mounted way up under the dash out of sight.

All my electronics pop off with no wires and they all fit great in a padded 6 pack cooler and kept in my car's trunk when I'm off the boat. Or in a locked up locker on the boat when I'm in a restaurant.

Keeping them in my trunk when trailering prevents them from getting constantly shaken up going over rough roads in addition to theft prevention.

Decided to mount the mike's connection on the lower leg of the console, rather than pop yet another hole in the dash. Dash would have caused the wire to stick way out and be too close to the wheel anyway on my 15 foot boat.

Also installed the Sirius antenna at the same time so I can use my car's portable unit on the boat for crystal clear sound even on the mountain lakes.

Just cut out a square of stainless steel from a switch plate as a backing plate to beef up the connection end of the Mike which is plastic where it detaches at the console leg. Still need to button up those hanging wires under the dash with some wire ties.

Can't wait to hit the water now. Soon as the icebergs  melt or the floating logs (like torpedos) flush down the Hudson River from the mountain water runoff . . . probably another week or two. It's 65 today and the Stripers will start running on the Hudson over the next few weeks.
