instaling lights and sealing the metal

i need to drill some holes in my newly painted trailer so i can mount some clearence lights ,,,,can i just seal the area around the bolts with caulking 3m brand ,,,so the trailer wont rust with the exposed metal

The clearance lights usually ground to the metal frame of the trailer. So be careful about messing the ground up. I usually connect the light and use liquid vinyl to coat the exposed nut and bolt. Works real well.
