as close as you reasonably can get them. the farther out the better they work.

what type do you have? go to the mfg.web site for directions.i have lenco and they should be installed 3 to 4 inches from the chine( out side edge) of the boat.bennett are the same

Joe, The tricky thing on a deep vee hull, is that the faster you go, the less of the hull stays in the water. If you have a light fast boat, the outer parts of the hul bottom may be out of the water, and the trim tabs will have reduced effect.

yes a very good point.i should have added the bottom edge of the tabs 1/8 inch up on the transom, from the bottom of the hill.

here is a pic of the way searay mounted the bennet tabs. as you can see they are on the out side of the farthest out chine and level with the bottom of the transom
