I'm thinking of buying the above, however, I may not be able to hook a hose onto it and start it up because the weather here is too cold right now. What can I do to protect myself as best as possible. It apparently runs great, but I'd be buying it "as-is".

I plan to check the gear case oil, the power trim operation, and do a compression test. Is there much else I can do?

Also, I haven't owned one of these particular motors before. Are they OK?

Check for spark on all cylinders and if possible have a leak down test done on it..

Look at the plugs, see what condition they are in, they will tell you if it is running lean, rich, or hot..
