Inside the Remote Control

I have a problem shifting into forward gear. I tried adjusting the cable as per my service manual and I still could not get forward. Reverse is no problem.
I thought it might be a stretched cable, so I purchased a new one. While installing the cable I noticed that inside the remote there seems to be a lot of play between the shift throttle plate and the shift lever assembly. It has enough play that it is not fully pulling the cable to engage forward gear. The play between the two is about 3/8?.
Is it possible to adjust this inside the remote?

Re: Inside the Remote Control

I'm not sure that it is the bushing.
The kind of play that I'm getting is as the two parts are rotating. The throttle plate is fine, it is the shift lever assembly that has the play. I can rotate it 3/8" +/- without moving the throttle.
Kind of lke when two gears are meshed together and one is missing some teeth.

I hope that explains it better.

Thanks
Mike
