If you had to choose one set up for inshore saltwater fishing (SE Florida & the Keys) What would you choose. Rod height? stiffness? spinning reel? baitcasting reel? line test ect. Looking for a setup that is multi functional.

I love my Tsunami rod (7' medium action) paired with a Shimano Baitrunner 4500. I use it to troll and surf fish, anything really.

-John

Re: Inshore saltwater combo

For soft plastic baits, topwaters, and live bait, I run a 7' foot, medium or med/heavy action Penn power-graph rod with a Shakespere 035 spinning reel, spooled up with 8 lbs test... That takes care of most of my inshore fishing needs...

To cover all the bases, You might want to go up a notch in reel size and run a slightly heavier line (10 to 12 lbs test), but stay with the 7 foot rod for sure..

If you plan to get serious at throwing plugs at em', a baitcaster my serve you better...

It all depends on how and what you plan to fish. Unless you go with application specific tackle everything is going to be a compromise.

it would be ideal to say what you are fishing for.

inshore species I use a 7'6" redbone rod, and a shimano stradic 4000, spooled with 20# braided line and 3 feet of flourocarbon leader
