On youtube, a guy demonstrates installing lumps in the cylinder head intake ports. Do these offer any benefit on a mercruiser inline 6 if everything else is kept stock?

I watched the video. It seems like it is a lot of work and it could be very easy to destroy your head on the process. If you are concerned about air flow why not polish your head, maybe do a 3 angle valve job.

Just curious more than anything. If I fix the floor & stringers this winter, I would like to pull the engine next year and modd it to the max possible, not that there is much to mod on the L6.......

Definatly not....... Just looking for little things to improve the 6.

If this modd works for stock stuff, that would be great, but I bet this is if you have a cam & high performance carb..

i'm under the impression there's not much, like nothing, to do to a mercruiser 165hp L6 for performance mods. so i don't even look any more. they are what they are, a good, no, great, working engine for a boat.

More for curiosity than anything I did a quick search to see what you were talking about. Here's the link to see it. I doubt seriously you would see any difference in performance at all. BUT - having said that, I haven't tried it.

See below. I can see the difference in number on the dyno test, but in real world performance gains, I cant; see how these are with the $65 + the ungodly amount of time to install. If turboing a street vehicle, then maybe......

T6 Racing sample flow numbers

Sample head; All flow testing was done on same head, same port on same flow bench by same technician. 194 head 1.940 Intake valve 1.600 Exhaust valve. Numbers are for comparison of lump build changes made not to measure any type of flow boasting rights. This is just an average head with average head flow numbers.

Looks like a huge amount of work for not too much gain, a simple port match and bowl blending would probably gain you just as much with 1/2 the work.
