Re: injector cleaner.

I can recommend Slick50 High Mileage Fuel System forumula. You add it the traditional way...run as low as you can on fuel.....before you fill up empty a bottle of it in....
In my 2 times using it I can almost immediately feel the difference. The bottle claims "effects can be felt up to 5000 miles" and it's about right. I don't know what they put in there but it seems to work, for a while anways...
I think Advanced Auto had the best price...around $5.00, Autozone had it priced in the $8-$9 range.

(p.s.) Disclaimer: I only know what I've experienced, I don't know what that cleaner is actually doing to the car :D )

Oh. About my vehicle. It's a 96 Chevy S-10 Pickup ,4-cylinder engine. It has about 145,000 miles on it.

I would STRONGLY recommend you DON'T use ANYTHING made by Slick 50. I don't know about their injector cleaner, but it has been proven several times that their oil additives are a scam and nothing more. There have been several lawsuits against them. I wouldn't buy their products on principle alone.

Berryman's B12. Walmart or your local autoparts store has it.

B12 is great and so is the Chevron with Techron.

A word of caution .... cleaners also break up all the garbage in the fuel system and that will inturn clog your fuel filter with junk! So, be prepared to replace the fuel filter regardless of what cleaner you use.

Bob

I use Xylene. Its already in high octane gasoline at the pumps, its also the major component of many injector cleaners that you pour into your tank. Its completely sensor safe. In the drag racing circles people mix it up to 30% in the tank to raise octane (its 114 or so). You can get into the high 90's with a mix.

I only use it for cleaning injectors and such. I buy it at Sherwin Williams supply stores (its a paint thinner, also the solvent used in commercial caulking), you can buy a gallon jug for about $10. Pour it in with a tank of gas. I usually buy the 5 gallon drum to save money. I pour in 1-2 gallons for a full tank of gas.

Your exhaust will smell quite interesting and you will then realize you can smell it if you buy premium gas at the pumps, only weaker.

I do agree that you should probably change your fuel filter later regardless of the cleaner. You will notice the effects after half a tank is used up.

I have also run some through my boat. It also fixed a near useless weed whacker after my carb rebuild did nothing to help it at all.

Re: injector cleaner.

I haven't had any luck with injector cleaners, but I thought I would chime in about another option in case the cleaners don't do the job. My 95 Grand Am had a bad injector last year and I took it to the dealer, and paid $500.00 to get it replaced. A few months ago, it started acting up again, I was sure it was an injector. I couldn't figure out which one by looking at the spark plugs or listening with a screwdriver so I decided to shotgun the project and replace all 6. Anyway, I bought 6 rebuilt ones from Motorman http://www.injectors4u.com/fuel_injectors.htm
The car has never run better, and I only spent $100.00 for all 6. Plus, I don't have to worry about having to replace them one at a time over the next couple of years.
