Info & year model on Mariner 30hp

Does anone know the year model of my motor ?<br />Model 30 ELO<br />Ser 689 L 421046<br /><br />Is this a Yamaha or Mercury based motor ?<br />The condition of the motor is immaculate...no corrosion at all. Were these considered a good year / model ?<br /><br />Many thanks in advance........

I have a head for motor which is like yours. It is definetly a Yamaha as nothing on it fits mercury. I gave up trying to use it as my orginal plans called for adding a lower unit and I simply could not find one. I gave up but did find out this is an outstanding motor. It is designed to be serviced unlike the 25hp unit made by Mercury the same year. It has a conventional steel sleeve, could be rebored if necessary and replaceable pistons are available unlike the 25. There arn't many of your model that have needed upper repair which is a good sign that it was a superior model.
