Does anyone know where to look up oil specs for Borg-Warner and Twin Disc transmissions? I have limited options and need to choose the best one.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob: As for the Borg-Warner transmissions models 71-C & 72-C, any automotive Dextron 3 automatic transmission fluid is acceptable...It's what I have always used...

Not sure on Twin Disc spec though....

Thank You, Snapperbait!

My mechanic had been using regular lube oil, but we will have to drain, flush, and refill.

Bob

Most of your Twin Disc gears will use engine oil and if the Borg Warner is behind a diesel that doesn't turn more than 3000 rpms, you can use engine oil in there also.

Re: Info on Transmission Oil

Sorry to sound confused, but both gears are behind older detroit diesels (4-53, 6V53) that don't get much over 2500 rpm. Do I understand that normal lube oil is acceptable in this case? (I am on an island, and lube oil is relatively easy to get, transmission fluid is harder)

Bob

Re: Info on Transmission Oil

Your mechanic was correct in the oil he used. Very common to use engine oil in the above clutches when behind diesels. The engine oil actually holds up better and holds pressure better than the red stuff. If you turned that Borg Warner higher than three grand with engine oil, it would blow the O rings out. If you changed the oil out for transmission fluid at this point, you might find the transmission slipping not long afterward. One of those ole, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
