I bought a new boat from a dealer in 2003. I just got the renewal for the registration from DMV and for the first time, noticed that the year of mfg. and length of the boat are not listed correctly. Actual year of mfg. is 2001, listed as 2003, and stated 15' length should be 14'. It's a Starcraft utility boat with a 20 hp outboard on it.
The hull ID number is correct and I have the original invoice and copy of credit card slip from payment. The instructions tell what to do if any info on the registration is incorrect: Make corrections on the renewal and send in the original title; they will issue a new title and resend the renewal.
In checking all this out, I also noticed that the boat year listed on my insurance is also 2003 (wrong).
I've more or less decided not to open up a whole can of worms with this and just let it go. It's been this way for 6 years. The only thing that sort of concerns me is the misinformation that the insurance company has.
Since it is March and I like to get on the water in May, I'm not sure the DMV can really straighten it all out in 2 months! It is a state agency after all. Registrations in NY are good for 3 years.
What do you think about all this? I never noticed the misinformation until now.
Thanks.
