Hi. I'm new here and hoping some of you more experienced folks can answer some questions I have about a trailer I'm inheriting. It is a Calkins T21-5090 from the late '70's or early '80's (green paint). It is a tandem axle rated for 5090 lbs. The T could be a number, it's hard to tell, as the plate is well worn. The tires on it are P185 75R14 and old. Hubs appear to be 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. They need replacement. I have not been able to locate any information about specs or replacement part numbers. Google has failed me. Given that Calkins is no longer in existence:

What size trailer tires equate to 185 75r14?
Assuming the axles and spindles are ok, can I replace with pre packed hub assemblies? What is the correct size?
It has a surge brake setup. What would be the proper parts for master cylinder, lines, brake assemblies?
What should I look for when inspecting the rollers and supports to determine what parts need replacement there? Should I use grade 5 or grade 8 hardware? (Will be dunked only in fresh water)

This is my first boat (1976 Aquasport 22-2 Family Fisherman) and trailer. Any information someone might have about the trailer would be great. Currently the boat and trailer are in Door County, WI and I'm in Chicago. I'm trying to get parts together for when I go up to get it road worthy to bring back with me.

Thanks so much in advance. These forums look to be a wealth of knowledge and I hope to contribute going forward...

Trailer tires and parts are very universal and are available right here on IBoats. ST205-75R-14 is the typical 14 inch trailer tire size. It has a 1760# load capacity at 50 PSI (x4 = 6640#). I would expect the axles to be 3500# rated which typically take a 10-inch diameter brake hub and backplate assembly. Those hubs typically have 1-1/16 outer bearings and 1-3/8 inners. The master cylinder is set up for either disk or drum brakes (drums in your case more than likely). As for lights, rollers, and other stuff you can tell by looking at them if they are worn, broken, missing, etc. Again, pretty standard stuff and available most anywhere.

Ayuh,.... Those are car tires, the "P" stand for passenger,.....

Ya need a set of 14" Trailer tires, their designation code is "ST",....

As for the bearin's, pull a hub, 'n measure 'em to see what's there,...
Heavier weight ratin', bigger bearin's,....

Forget it's a Calkins, 'n search Trailer Parts,....

Their most all generic anyways once ya get past the frame,....

Thanks folks!! The P rating was a bit alarming, but the trailer hasn't moved far over the years. I am going to pull apart one of the hubs and check measure for sizes. I'm pretty certain you're both right in that its going to be the standard sizes for the parts. Thanks again for assuaging some nerves.
