Info needed in identifying 25 hp; have serial but no model no.

How does one discover if a certain 25 hp Mercury, Serial Number 0G170657, is a short or long shaft? The tag with the model number isn't on the machine. (Also, the lower unit was wrecked and is no longer there, so one isn't able to measure... ) Where does one look up the needed information?

1995---Even the torque tube on a long shaft is longer than a short, measure yours and then mesure one on another engine
