thats a 1974...use a good 4 stroke outboard oil in the crankcase...uses regular gas with no oil...the impeller needs to rub the wear cup to operate...the lower unit uses regular outboard gear oil

zzzz,
Thanks so much for your help. From reading all the questions you seem to helped a lot of people. Your answers sure have help me. This is the first time i have seen the crank case located under the cowl. I have never known for a outboard at this age to not require 2cycle oil. Anyway thanks for the reply.

zzzz,
How long can you typically go before adding oil to the crank case? I realize for every tank of gas chk the oil. How much oil should i expect to refill this motor, since completely drained.just wondering. about the oil i'm sure i can go to any honda dealer and get a good oil but what do you recommend. This motor was in excellent shape when purch. engine under cowl looks excellent havent ran it yet. I didnt realize 4 stokes were made back then. can you elaberate. apparently this motor is not very common. curious of reply.

Re: info. for used motor

crankcase holds 0.85 quarts of oil...change oil every 50 hours...you shouldn't have to add unless you have a leak...Honda is the king of 4 strokes as they have been making them for over 30 years...use a good 10/30 4 stroke oil...there are a lot of those old blue and white motors still running!

Re: info. for used motor

zzzz,
again thanks you been a big help. let you know how it runs. this motor is orange/white. about to change to camo though. i had one problem when trying to remove bolts from empeller housing. the two bolts away from the impeller broke off in the frame. had to drill and tap. one of the bolts manage to break through exposing itself other tight. I just put some jb weld and let dry. hope it will hold. screw still partially in thread, other half exposed. looks like made a good bond. we will see. do you expect a problem. i did put form a gasket around entire landing match up. housing/frame. if doesnt hold is there anything better than jb weld.

Marine-Tex is pretty good stuff-you can drill & tap it...keep an eye on your gear oil to be sure its not leaking

Re: info. for used motor

thanks for all of your replies the more comments the more i learn. I to thought that when i apply oil to chek dip stick as i go. still letting me know at least lets me know how much to expect when i apply. Im glad that zzz told me not to apply 2cycle in gas b/c i would have thought i would have to. that is elementary but i never have seen this before. anyone know a good type of paint i might use to change color. orange/white to camo. thanks again keep the replies coming, each time i read a comment im learning.
