Besides switching around plugs to get the least variance, are spark plug spacers/washers the only way one should reach a correct positioning? I had heard that you could remove the factory washer from the plug. This seems like it could cause damage to the top of the piston. I don't think it would hit, but could it cause problems in the long-run?

fishalot

P.S. Thanks to all for the spark plug specks, especially Captblacksmarine I appreciate you looking up the bulletin for me.

Re: Indexing Plugs

The ring on the spark plug serves as a sealing "gasket", do not remove it. Also, DO NOT add shims to achieve the desired orientation. Adding shims would bring the spark away from the fuel plume in the combustion chamber and contribute to bad running. I have found that if you install the plug finger tight and your reference mark is with in 5/8ths to 1/4th of a turn of the desired index position it will work without being over-torqued or too loose. If you need a copy of the indexing instruction, e-mail me at jegervais@yahoo.com and I'll send it to you.

-John
