You might post in the MerCruiser forum. My guess is that you have an Alpha i Gen II outdrive, and that is the supply nipple for the gear oil reservoir.

Or the plastic water inlet tube, hard to tell, what you circled

If it's the water tube you're interested in, then the part number is 32-417621. I'm guessing you found that image in a search, as it's a 4 cylinder Gen II transom assembly, with a late model power steering cylinder. But you since you have a 1987 unit, then it'll be an Alpha One, with a bullhorn exhaust and an early model power steering.. The Alpha One doesn't have an oil reservoir fitting through the transom assembly, so the only thing in that place is the water tube.

Yep, definitely can confirm its the water tube.. just changed mine.
