Not much.

Make sure it is propped right. Should turn 5500 with a light load. Any less and it is lugging, wasting fuel and will not last long.

The only other thing is staying out of wide open throttle. There is a big difference in fuel economy between 3/4 and wide open.

Use it less !!!!:D Sit at the dock more.:)
Find a lake with a slope on it and only go downhill :D:D
Nothing else really works other than the above post from DJ.

Yeah, not much apart from what has been said. Keep it tuned; fresh plugs, fuel filter, proper timing and correct prop.

That 88 is a crossflow and as such is not great on fuel. Smooth idle and lots of torque but a looper will outrun it in fuel consumption every time.

Put a kicker motor on your boat for slow speed travel, at least that's my plan to save gas on my 90hp Johnson "the pig" I call it.

A kicker? Dont think i'll go that route. Staying out of WOT is about the only thing that i can do it looks like. And eliminate deadbeat fishing buddies:D

when you take off. let it get to WOT, then move the throttle back to 7/8th- 3/4 trottle, this leaves the timing wot, and cuts the fuel usage. you may loose 2-3 mph. but save a lot more in fuel.
