Increasing Casting Distance

I want to make longer casts when throwing top water lures. Will I add much distance by decreasing line diameter and going to braid?

4. Increase rod length
3. Reduce friction in the guides (reduction in line diameter. Better designed rod)
2. Reduce friction of reel spool

Practice Practice Practice

Until you reach a plateau, practice will overcome all of the above

To add on top of what he said sometimes a bearing upgrade helps.
