OK, i am a long time motor head, but all with land bond cars. was wondering if there are any tips or tricks, or a performance parts area for O/B motors. I have a 91 Johnson 115 V4 Pro and was wondering what is availble to increase the performance.

Re: increase performance

yup, bigger motor is the preferred method.

couple things come to mind:
*make sure you're getting all 90 horses. compression test, use the right spark plugs, plenty of fuel pressure, quality engine oil, carb/spark advance sync, fresh gear oil.
*setup -- prop in good shape? does it run at the top of the recommended RPM range at WOT? is it as high on the transom as it can be without losing water pressure or ventilating the prop? read the mercury marine website write-up on propellers, it's an education. A set-back might let you run the motor even higher.
*weight & balance -- jetison all unnecessary weight. lose a few pounds, ration your beverages, leave the mother-in-law at home. check the boat for saturated floatation foam.
*is the hull true and fair?

Re: increase performance

Are you saying that drinking lite beer will raise your top speed by several miles an hour....?

OK, We all know that drinking gin or rye gives you 1,000 HP breath. Will this translate to more MPH?
