Re: Inboard Transmisson VS I/O outdrive Poll:
My choice for more than 30 boating years has been the I/O:

Better performance (speed/HP, 5-10 mph faster).
Better fuel economy (by 10-20%).
Better bottom-collision avoidance. (raise drives when in shallow waters)
Better manuverability.
Better maintainability. (easy to service a stern drive - tough to pull a inboard's transmission)

Just sold my 30'1983 with original twin 280 Volvo I/Os and they are probably good for another 20 years. They only took minimum maintenance for over the 20 years (clean zebra mussels, check and change I/O oil, touch up props, replace bellows (twice), annual paint touchup on drives w/epoxy paint, and replace Magnesium anodes every 3 or 4 years.

Just sprung for a newer 32' boat, also with twin Volvo I/O. Inboards were also available, but WHY change a good thing ?? I love the Volvo I/Os !!!
