Inboard Skiboat - water in block

I have an Indmar 351 in a Mastercraft Prostar - once the boat is removed from the water, does the block hold water in the cooling system? Seems to me that the ideal system would offer no resistance to draining (less back pressure on the water pump = less load on the motor = more hp - does this make sense?)

? .I got no idea what that means . Your engine will still have water trapped in it , and if the temp in your area drops below freezing there's a good chance you'll damage something. Two questions before we go on , have you ever ran the engine on the trailer with a hose before? ,and do you know if you have a closed cooling system on the engine?

It's an open system, draws raw water and expels thru the exhaust, right? And no, I haven't run it on the trailer, but I'll flush it out before I put it away for the winter. What I mean by the hp thing is if the water pump has to circulate the water (under pressure) in a closed system (like a car), it is under load, causing the motor to have to devote power to the pump that could be going down the drive train. I know this from auto's trying to use electric water pumps for this very reason. But if the system is open, there's less resistance for the pump. Maybe it just doesn't amount to much. Regardless, you answered my question about water remaining in the block.
