Prop shaft seal, I just tightened to the point where it won't drip and no further. I have heard both sides of the story, should i loosen it so it does drip a little? or leave it? people claim it needs to drip to cool the driveshaft, but I say it cools enough through the entire driveshaft. what are your thoughts?

We allways set them up with a very slight drip. You can convert to a dripless packing system but they are a little spendy, $200.00 to $300.00 depending on the brand.

Shaft packings are NOT supposed to make heat....properly set up, they rely on a thin film of water between the shaft and the packing to lubricate and cool the stuffing box.....idling in gear, a drip every few seconds is great, and no drips with the shaft stationary is perfect....not always easy to acheive, but it is the goal....
