inboard rpm?

I have a 19 foot fiberglass Marque boat with a 140 hp inboard .<br />When I get the boat to plane the tack is showing 5000+ at about 30 miles per hour.<br /><br />Is this good ??<br />how do I lower this. this boat is a dual purpose pleasure & downrigging<br /><br />Thanks <br />Rick

5000's toohigh for a 140. I think wot =4600-4800.maybe lower.; Repitch your prop, higher pitch lowers rpm, usually increses speed. May lose a little at holeshot. If you have a merc wot range is posted on the engine with the specs, depending on year model ints on the valve cover or flame arrestor lid.
