Inboard Gas Leak

I just bought a 1998 Bayliner with an inboard engine. July 4th I found out(the hard way) that there is a gas leak. While running the boat we ran out of gas in the middle of Lake Ponchatrain! After waiting five hours for the coast guard we were able to get towed back to dry land. Still had a blast though! The gas is coming out of the engine and is visable on the surface of the water. What should I do to repair this problem? I do not want to take it into a service shop because I just had to put alot of money into the trailer. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
